Dog food is a serious issue at our house:
- Two years ago we had one 50 pound dog.
- Right now we have one 100 pound adult dog, and one 85 pound puppy.
- Two years from now we will have one 100 pound adult dog, and 180+ pound adult dog.
So we will be going through a lot of food, and it needs to work for both young and adult dogs. Annabelle had been eating Avoderm for the last few years. Her coat was really smooth, but she would frequently leave entire meals uneaten. We would mix in other food usually but even then she would skip meals regularly. Her weight stayed steady and her activity level was consistently high.
The helpful folks at Wylie Wagg introduced us to the Sammy Snacks brand of food. I’m very glad they did, as we were looking at very expensive, grain-free dog foods. These foods are usually very high in protein and fat. Sammy Snacks dog foods are formulated to meet AAFCO standards. Dogs need less food since each cup has a LOT of calories. The price was great; cheaper than the food we had been using and MUCH MUCH cheaper than the other brands we were considering.
It’s even made in Virginia, which means the food is fresh and it wasn’t shipped all over the country. Both of our dogs have been devouring it. We even use it for training treats on morning walks!
